Vale Max Kidd OAM
Altona has lost one of its champions.
John Maxwell (Max) Kidd was a pillar of our community and much loved member of our Labor family.
Locals may recall Max as a teacher, a keen golfer, and a passionate advocate for Altona.
Through his membership of the Altona Loop Group and the Altona Complex Neighbourhood Consultative Group – among many other local organisations he was involved in – Max spent his life working to improve services and support for the people of Altona.
He was a champion of better education for the young people of Melbourne’s West.
Awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in 1999 for service to the community, particularly youth, and to rugby union football, Max will undoubtedly be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
I’m certain many Labor members will join me in celebrating Max’s contribution to our party, and his commitment to values of social justice and democracy.
Max was a renaissance man. A great story teller. A wonderful friend to all. I will miss his friendship and support.
Max lived life as it should be lived – in service of others.
He was a true believer, and I will miss his passion and energy.
I send my sincere condolences to Margaret, Judith and all of Max’s family.
The funeral will be held this Sunday 26 April at 1.30pm, at St Michael’s Uniting Church (cnr Collins and Russell St Melbourne).
The service will be followed by refreshments at the Power House Rugby Club in Albert Park.
Max’s family has requested donations are made to the Altona Macular Degeneration and Low Vision Support Group, in lieu of flowers.
